To quote the Rolling Stones, allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Ayden, I live in New Zealand, I am an avid video game fan or a “gamer” and I love basketball. But how did I get into basketball?

My earliest memory of the NBA was a game I saw between the Chicago Bulls and the Charlotte Hornets. Everybody I knew at school was into the Bulls but for some reason, the teal uniforms with pinstripes of the Hornets just drew me in. This would’ve been around 92-93 so I ended up learning about guys like Alonzo Mourning, Larry Johnson and of course, Muggsy Bogues.

I would try and catch games whenever I could but with only free TV, these were few and far between. It wasn’t until 1996 when we finally got Sky TV and the sports channel that I really got into the NBA but once I had access, I was hooked. This was when MJ, the greatest of all-time, had just come back and I got to watch one of the greatest dynasties of all time and while I had mad respect for the Bulls and Jordan in particular, the Hornets were still dear to my heart.

The Hornets still had Muggsy Bogues which was fantastic although Larry Johnson had moved on to the Knicks and Zo was with the Heat. But now we had guys like Vlade Divac, Anthony Mason (RIP) and one of my all-time favourite players, Glen Rice. With this team, my love for the Hornets was cemented and I have been a die-hard fan ever since (there was a period of mourning from 2002 until two years ago.)
